
The Grand Palais’ facade features a 75-meter-long mosaic frieze under its peristyle. Consisting in 92 different shades of glass paste, it represents Art through the Centuries and Civilizations, drawing on numerous examples of art history.
On this detail, you can observe a sculpture by Germain Pilon, The Three Graces, designed for the funerary monument of king Henri II’s heart. Made between 1561 and 1566, the work can now be seen at the Louvre museum.
On the right, the chapel master playing the organ is none other than Alfred Picard, general curator of the 1900 World’s Fair for which the building was constructed.
