The 1900 World’s Fair in Paris was instituted by a 1892 decree. Alfred Picard, iconic figure of the 1889 World’s Fair who wrote a report about it, was named General Curator for the “Great Exhibition of the Century’’. It took 3 years to prepare the exhibition. Open for seven months, it received virtually 51 millions visitors ! The exhibitors’ pavilions covered 108 hectares, from the Champs de Mars to the Invalides, including the Trocadéro and the Champs-Elysées. Only three buildings were preserved after the end of the fair : the Petit Palais, the Grand Palais and the Alexander III bridge.
