Notre-Dame de Paris’ nave is 60 meters long. Its vault, culminating at 33 meters, is supported by 75 pillars and columns.
The cathedral’s restoration brought back the blondness of the stone. The building looks brand new, just as the Parisians of the Middle Ages must have known it. Notre-Dame de Paris was actually built according to the latest architectural research of the 12th century in order to let in as much natural light as possible.
As the construction was spread on three centuries, the architecture combines different styles. First, the early gothic with the vault divided into six parts. Then, the high gothic indicated by the 3-level elevation, here the arcades, the matroneum and the high windows. Eventually, the cathedral illustrates the rayonnant gothic through its three large rose windows. Nonetheless, the architecture is very harmonious.
